Unsatisfactory experience with Dreams and the Resort Team

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

This is Lillian Dixon, contract number CD1 - 00****. I have been an owner at Casa Dorado since 2004.

I generally come every year and enjoy the property greatly. This year has been an exception. I feel that since the resort program has transitioned to The World of Hyatt, no one cares about quality customer service for people in my category,

I arrived here Monday 3 July. Since Monday, I was in room 4406.

The air condition worked half a day. I asked for assistance every day and someone came and it only worked for 15 minutes. It never got better. Enough was enough because my family was miserable.

Our vacation has been ruined because if it. No one could sleep.

Finally I approached Denise about changing rooms on Saturday. She moved us to a room with air but much smaller than my normal room. She should have moved me on Day 1 when I made my first complaint to her.

No one followed up with me regarding this experience.

I think my experience should be like any other guests that stays at the resort.

Mine has not been, and I want to be compensated for it. Please tell me what you will do to make this up to me and my family.

Thank you for your response

Lillian Dixon

My stay at Dreams Curacao Resort

We brought 24 people to your resort on March 1, 2023 for my son wedding on the 3rd. Upon arrival several of the guests room were not right.

Everyone paid for Oceanview. The bride and groom got a room with two double beds and a view of the parking lot. The brides sister exchanged rooms with them. The one couple who paid less than the rest got a suite.

The AC did not work in some of the room as well. Two of our guests had leaks in the bathrooms. I have pictures of dishes on the floor for days from room service that was never picked up. When we got to the rehearsal dinner there was no set up.

No one knew anything about it. The bride argued and they finally gave a family style dinner. (meanwhile we all paid for all inclusive) The day of the wedding the bride paid for flowers on tapestry. (No flowers) There was supposed to be a cocktail hour after and no cocktail hour.

By this point we went to the main bar for drinks. The food was cold and to get a drink the average wait time was 10 - 15 minutes. To be honest I am not upset with the staff. I am most aggravated with the management.

Our last night the fire alarm went of at 3:00 am. People running down the staircases. NO COMUNICATION! Everyone was evacuating.

Security just watched about 100 of us hanging around for an hour until we went up and asked and they said someone smoked a cigarette where they were not supposed to. We asked if we could go back inside and they shrugged. There was no direction for employees. It's a shame because Curacao was so beautiful.

I have going on social media to complain but needless to say, It was embarrassing. I would love to have some sort of feedback from you.

I know we are not the only ones who felt this way. We met many people with a lot of problems as well.

Awful Resort

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Aug 17, 2022

It has been nearly a month and Dreams Sands has not responded at all to my complaint.

Original review Jul 18, 2022
This was the worst vacation experience I have ever encountered. Dreams claims to offer "unlimited-luxury".

That could not be further from the truth about this resort. The issues began immediately upon check-in.
Dreams claims baggage will be stored in a secure location if guests arrive prior to check-in and early check-in is not available. Our baggage was left on the sidewalk, completely unsecure and left to bake in the heat. When I went to retrieve an item from my baggage, I found a man going through the bags of other people in our group.

I notified the door attendant and he said okay and did nothing at all about it, so I had to deal with the man myself. Our baggage continued to remain unsecure for several more hours.
It was also immediately apparent that this resort does not have air conditioning. No where is this disclosed about this property. Our room never dropped below 80 degrees F.

The restaurants were so hot, we were using our napkins as sweat towels and it was too uncomfortable to eat.
The beach was covered in seaweed. The resort personnel made no attempt to remove it. (Any other resort I've visited removed excess seaweed on the beach daily). This is particularly troublesome considering upon returning home with a full body rash, I learned that this seaweed contains arsenic and other toxins and poisons.

In the airport we learned other resorts were warning guests to swim in the ocean at their own risk or completely prohibiting it. Dreams did not even disclose that there was an issue.
While the cleaning of the common areas seemed well done, the cleaning of guest rooms was atrocious. Upon checking in, it was evident our room had not been fully cleaned - sinks and tub/shower were dirty, sand on the floor. The day-to-day cleaning was inconsistent - generally the floor was never swept.

We usually had to ask for toilet paper, it was not provided. Miscellaneous paper and random towels were left on the floor. Mini-bar was not stocked.
The concept of not having to make reservations for dinner seemed nice, but we learned that it meant we'd have to wait upwards of 2 hours to be seated for dinner (even if arriving shortly after the restaurants opened) and wait another hour or more to be served food. There were no special accommodations for Preferred Club members.

The dishes that were served often did not match the dishes described in the menu.
The resort website lists a sports/music bar, which does not even exist. All bars, except for one closed at 10pm. The one bar was so busy, it was impossible to be served or even hang out comfortably, since it was so crowded. I completely appreciate that most, if not all, businesses are short-staffed these days.

However, given the cost of such a vacation, the resort should not be open if it cannot actually serve its guests.
The resort facility is in poor condition. The door to our room did not fit correctly into the door opening, so it either would not lock or we had difficulty getting it unlocked and we could not use the deadbolt at all. Elevators broke down daily. The beach area is not maintained at all.

There was garbage and other debris (aside from the aforementioned toxic seaweed) all over, making it hazardous to walk barefoot.
There were no activities permitted unless conducted by the activities coordinator. There was a volleyball net in the ocean. We asked for a volleyball and were told we could only play when they coordinated a game. If we wanted to play on our own, we had to buy a ball in the gift shop.

This is outrageous. Every resort I have ever visited had numerous games available to play all day long, in addition to resort hosted games and activities. The resort-hosted activities were the lamest attempts at entertainment I have ever seen. It is evident no effort is made in the planning.
We paid an additional fee for the Preferred Club status.

Several of the advertised amenities did not even exist - specifically, a Preferred Club members only pool. Members were also supposed to receive a bottle of liquor of specific-quality brands every couple of days. The resort did not have the advertised brands, but would not grant any substitutions and instead tried to charge exorbitant rates when comparable brands were requested. We were instead offered bottom shelf brands.

Clearly a bait and switch, which is fraud.
When booking a vacation at a Dreams resort, guests expect a certain level of facilities, accommodations, services, etc. that align with Dreams' slogan of unlimited-luxury. This resort is not at all up to these standards. This is no more than a 1-star resort, yet, still charging rates of the advertised "unlimited-luxury" standard.

This was my first experience with Dreams and it has left an awful impression. One I will be sure to pass along to all of my family and friends.

6 rotten apple resort

We booked and paid for 6 apple deal. Last year we went to iberostar and we're treated like royalty ( it was only 5 apple). The moment we arrived into the ghetto to dreams peurto adventurous we wanted out. The room was dated, smelly and dirty. Not to mention the locks on the doors don't work. So they put us in a second room only difference was it smelled like insecticide instead of mold. We went to the desk and asked to go to an actual resort not a ghetto hotel. We were told for $2100 more they would send us to another resort. Without refunding the $2400. We paid. We did not have a spare $2100 and were forced to stay because we even tried to get a flight for the next day and that was over $1500 or wait 4 more days for only another $900. Well the food was disgusting birds eating and pooping in the salad bar. Most of the food I believe was refused by the inmates from the local prison and of course we lost about 10 lbs. that week. Staff was horrible there was even a fight in one of the restaurants that we were later asked by the manager to identify what happened and who started it. The beach is only about 150 long and we had to climbed over seaweed as if sic mondo the sea monsters family reunion was taking place. No efforts to clean it out like the neighboring resorts did throughout the day. The pool was slightly larger than a town pool and usually filled with debris. This was apple vacations square deal 6 apples.. BEWARE THERE IS NOT A THING THAT ANYONE CAN DO TO FIX THIS. You are stuck in a foreign country and they know it. Apple vacation owns this "resort" and refuse any and all remedies. They told the BBB TO BAD THEY STAYED THERE NO REFUNDS. Tried explaining to everyone that we could just drive home about 6500 miles. The response was why not.... I believe the square in the square deal means you boxed in and we are gonna screw you... well they did...Stay away

Dreams Resorts And Spas - Dreams Punta Cana = Nightmares Punta Cana - Image 3
This is a summary of the various experiences at Dreams Punta Cana. It may be out of order but I did my best. When we arrived on April 22nd, we were greeted by a concierge as well as someone from the Preferred Club. We were given a letter to be used at the restaurants stating that we needed gluten free. We also saw one of the chefs. We were assured that there would be no problem and that they dealt with this all the time. The concierge told me to contact him anytime if we needed anything. When we arrived at our rooms, the first thing we noticed was that my and my husband's room smelled like mildew. Really strong. I'm very allergic to mold. It was really warm. I lowered the temperature on the air conditioning control. I went to the room adjoining us to get my son settled. I noticed that the chain lock on the door was coming out of the wall and that the lock to the sliding glass door didn't work. I emailed the concierge immediately about the locks and the terrible smell. I also notified the preferred club. The concierge replied the next day about "refreshing the room" but not about the locks. Someone did come and fix them. I'm attaching a picture of what the repair looked like. I emailed The concierge again that night because we were told that they didn't have gluten free bread when we were at the Seaside Grill. He never replied. Luckily I had brought my own. The next morning we went to breakfast at Oceana. We gave the letter to the server who read it and looked confused. I asked if there was someone we could speak to. A gentleman spoke to me and showed me what was gluten free. I knew I was in trouble when we he pointed out the bacon sitting on bread and told me my family could eat the bacon because it was gluten free. He told me they would be ok if they took it off the bread. I explained over and over until he understood that cross contamination was an issue. He finally went to the back and got fresh bacon. I also had to explain that cooking eggs on the same surface as they were heating bread would not be ok. He did have someone put them in a separate pan. He also pointed at the gluten free bread that the Seaside Grill claimed didn't exist. I believe it was the second day, my daughter plugged something in one of the outlets and sparks flew out of the wall. The outlet was hanging out of the wall. I emailed the concierge and cc'ed my travel agent. He never replied but thankfully she did. She tried all day to get in touch with someone who could speak English that would help me. She told me that she was trying to contact the concierge. Later she told me that he would be speaking to me. He never did. Someone did come "refresh" the room. This consisted of a can of air freshener sprayed around the room and into the air conditioning vent. Not sure how this would get rid of mildew. It just smelled like flowery mildew. It actually smelled worse. The next day (day 5, Tuesday 4/26) my travel agent finally spoke to someone helpful. Another concierge. He met with me and listened to my concerns. He was sympathetic. I told him about the smell and the broken air conditioning, the problems with the restaurants and an incident at dinner a prior night involving my father. More on that later. He told me they would send a dehumidifier to the room which they eventually did. He set up dinner that night and made sure the restaurant was prepared for us and gluten free. Dinner went very smoothly that night. The dehumidifier did help with the smell but made the room warmer. Also, the tank had to be emptied every few hours because the humidity level was so high and it kept filling up. It wasn't like this in the other 3 rooms so it was not due to being on the ground floor. The next night we went for Italian. One of the worst food experiences of the trip but unfortunately not the worst. We gave the letter to the server. She looked utterly confused. She took the letter and 20 minutes later came back to take our order. No one spoke to us about what my daughter and husband could eat. All she did was point at the items marked gluten free. I told her I wanted to speak to someone and that I needed the letter back. She walked away and brought back a gentleman, I assume the maitre d. He also pointed at the dinners that were gluten free. I asked him about gluten free pasta, which we were assured we would be able to have, and he told me that it needs to be requested a few hours before. I told him that I was told differently. He walked away and came back and told me they could do gluten free spaghetti. He didn't know what thy could put on it. I asked to speak to the chef and he said he would go ask. When they brought the food out, my husbands dinner was garnished with a huge cracker. No one could tell me if it was gluten free or not. I told him we needed a fresh one and he looked at me like I was crazy. He did bring a fresh one. The next few nights dinner was set up by "helpful concierge". The restaurants knew we were coming. The Asian restaurant went well. There was someone who understood gluten free. This was the only restaurant in the whole place where we encountered someone who understood. Dinner at La Trattoria was stressful. The waitress looked blankly at the letter. I had to ask questions about everything and she was obviously annoyed. I asked her if we could speak to the chef about what we could put on the pasta. Again we couldn't. She came back and told me that 2 sauces were ok. When I asked her why the Alfredo sauce here wasn't ok but it was ok at the other Italian restaurant she just shrugged. She couldn't tell me what was in it and didn't try to find out. Our last night we ate at Oceana. "Helpful concierge" had told them we were coming and that we wanted pasta for my daughter. We showed the letter to the server and he clearly didn't understand. I asked to speak to the gentleman that had been helping us at breakfast because I saw he was there. He came over and basically said that they were making the gluten free pasta for my daughter. I tried to ask him about my husband's meal but he was in a rush and walked away. Again we tried to ask the server about one of the entrees and whether or not it could be prepared gluten free. He didn't understand. We asked to speak to the other gentleman again. He came over and said that the pasta was coming. As he was walking away again, we had to stop him to ask about my husband. We showed him what he wanted. He told him he couldn't have it because there was milk in the mashed potatoes. He told my daughter she couldn't have the Caesar salad that she was eating all week because it had cheese on it. When I told him that milk and cheese were ok, he argued with me and told me that I was wrong. Basically no one is trained on what gluten is. They have no idea. The letter says that the person presenting it needs to avoid "gluten". It doesn't say what gluten is. If someone isn't familiar with the word, they have no clue. The letter needs to explain what it is. Our dining experiences were nothing short of frustrating and stressful. Most people were annoyed about our questions or couldn't understand them at all. If Dreams is going to put "gluten free" on the menus, they are taking the responsibility to educate their staff as to what that is. Only a few people know. If someone doesn't know they should be able to ask someone who does. We tried to make the best of the situation but I had to deal with a very sad little girl who ate salad most meals and a very angry husband. We spent a lot of money on the trip and the food was not something we should've had such issues with. There was constant communication ahead of time between me and the resort as well as my travel agent and the resort and we were both assured things would be great. I was told that the chefs would be able to modify things that weren't marked gluten free to make them gluten free. This wasn't offered once. We paid for the preferred club. We got 4 rooms in desperate need of repair. Broken locks, broken fan, broken outlets, terrible smell, broken air conditioning. The air conditioning was finally fixed on day 8. The last morning we woke up to it leaking all over the floor and on our clothes. The power in the resort went out numerous times. It happened mostly during the night and every time it went back on, the tv in my room came on and woke us up. The last night it went out right after dinner for close to an hour. We ate with the light from our cell phones. The worst part of the trip happened at the buffet. While My father seated at dinner with the family, the waiter passed behind him and with both hands he grabbed the sides of his torso. As I recall, he squeezed him two times (in rapid succession). I say "squeezed" for want of a better word. The grab was as you would grab excess skin to form a so called rubber tire on your body. This did not seem malicious as it did not hurt him physically, and the waiter was not angry or appear negative. However, it was extremely embarrassing as others were staring and noticing, even chuckling. Drawing attention to someone's excess weight in front of many people in close proximity is humiliating. He was astounded and shouted "Don't do that", the waiter retreated. Apologies from him and another staff member followed, later. My father is not aware of any Dominican customs which explain this terriblebehavior. In fact, in the hundreds of thousands of miles traveled to manyforeign countries during his career, nothing even close has ever happened. If I were the waiter's employer, I would be watching him very closely. That is if I did not already have reason to fire him. My father is a quiet man. He doesn't like attention drawn to him, especially when it causes embarrassment. He was mortified and it was sad to watch. If someone who was overweight in the U.S. was treated that way, there would be outrage. My father handled it in a dignified manner but was and still is upset about it. The resort grounds are beautiful. The concierge was wonderful and tried to help but too much was out of his control. The resort is in major need of updates. The staff needs to be educated about food allergies and intolerances. My husband and I have been to Excellence Resorts and the chef talks to him before each meal and go out of their way to make sure he is well fed and happy. Nothing close to that happened at Dreams Punta Cana. Any of these issues or situations on their own (other than my fathers experience) wouldn't be a big deal. A bad meal, a broken lock, a power outage. They happen. However, for all this to happen to one family is not acceptable. Our family doesn't travel often because we just can't afford it. This was our first family trip since 2009. It's a shame that it was a stressful, problem-filled week. Not what we were expecting from a resort that claims have "Unlimited Luxury".

SCAM DREAM SUGAR BAY ST. THOMAS

‎Dreams Sugar Bay St. Thomas I stayed here for 5 day in May 2015. The sites were beautiful but the hotel was not even close to a 5 star resort. Not a single ice machine in the hotel worked. The spa had no one on staff to braid my hair during my entire stay. Their web page states all inclusive and I order the anniversary package 3 months in advance & did not receive a thing I was promised. I had to go to KMart to purchase beer, soda and liquor for my room and still could not get ice at the hotel without an issue.

PAID $10,000 dollars for wedding / vacation trip and got scammed.

Dreams Rivera Resort in Mexico took our $10,000 and left us hanging. They ruined our wedding and vacation. This was an all inclusive resort with fine dining restaurants that they would not let us enter. Dreams Riviera Resirt put us in a room infested with BLACK MOLD. My family had to eat in a buffet line for 10-days. The police pulled us over in tiny car and harassed me and my family by confiscating my drivers license then asking us $100 to return it. My children were crying in the back seat only 10 & 14 years old. It is very unsafe. When you can't trust the police. Who can you trust. The Dreams Resort has a management full of Scammers and Liars. When asked numerous times to see the General Manager. He avoided us the entire trip. Dreams Resort ripped us off costing us $10,000 and ruined our wedding and vacation forever. DO NOT GO TO DREAMS RIVIERA RESORT IN MEXICO.
